ALFRED J. HANSON

Alfred J. Hanson, second son of Thomas E. and Elizabeth Jones-Hanson, was born Nov. 3, 1860, in Howard County, Indiana. He was early deprived of a mother’s love, she being called home when he was five years of age. His early life was spent on the farm, attending school and helping with the duties in the home.

On March 18, 1882, he was united in marriage with Marietta Morris, and they with their nearest relatives and many friends celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last March.

Four children came to bless the home, two of whom were early called home. One daughter, Lena Florence McCracken died Dec. 22, 1918. One other daughter, Lovetta Richards of Minneapolis survives him.

He was reared in a Christian home and was a birthright member of the Friends Church, but did not accept Christ as his Savior until Feb. 22, 1883, at the age of twenty-two. From that time on he lived an earnest, active Christian life. A family altar was established which was never laid down.

During the early years of his married life he had been living on a farm but the call to the ministry was so strong he left the farm and since that time has given his best to the church and all its interests. He was ordained a minister at the age of thirty-five and served as pastor in a number of different Meetings in Indiana and Iowa and at the time of his death was pastor of the Bear Creek Church. He was much loved for his earnestness and devotion to the work.
