Death of Glen Breakenridge

On last Saturday night about 12 o’clock occurred the death of Glen, the ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Breakenridge, at his home in Penn township. He had been ill about a week with appendicitis and everything possible was done to save his life but it was not to be, and he passed to his reward as above stated. Glen was an unusually bright lad and his death will be sincerely mourned by many outside the family. The sorrowing parents in this hour of trial have the sympathy of the entire community.

The funeral service was held in the Penn Center church on Monday morning at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Bartholomew of Dexter, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Penn Center cemetery. The church could not begin to hold all who came to attend the service.

James Glenn Breakenridge was born November 27, 1891 and died March 22, 1902, of appendicitis. His short life was full of promises for a bright future. He was a reader and student unusual for one of his age. Only ten years old he had almost finished the rural school course, and was making plans to go away to school. He was a faithful attendant at church and Sunday school, and the trend of his thoughts was shown by the questions he asked on the lessons, which puzzled the teachers to answer.

He was a brave and patient sufferer during his painful illness. His cheerfulness and courage through suffering such as few grown people could have borne as he did, were remarkable. His memory will be cherished till we meet him in the better land.
