Death of Milton C. Gordon

Milton C. Gordon passed away at the Winterset hospital November 24th. He was 74 years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Friday, November 28th, conducted by Rev. H. L. Olmstead, at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

He was survived by two children three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Heaton of Enid, Oklahoma and Stella of Canada. Mr. Gordon was born in Madison county in 1856. In 1889 he was married to Alma Jane Penn. Following her death he moved to Winterset. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Libby Rhoads who passed away two years ago. He was a member of the Church of Christ. More details may be found in the mortuary column.

Milton C. Gordon

Milton Campbell Gordon, son of Albert and Eliza Gordon, was born in Madison county, Iowa, August 15, 1856. His boyhood was spent on the home place. He attended the Farris school. In the year 1888 he was united in marriage to Alma Jane Penn, to this union two children were born. Clarence of Union township and Mrs. Marie McClintic of Winterset, Iowa. Alma Jane Gordon passed away in 1920. Following her death he moved to Winterset. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Libby Rhoads, who passed away two years ago. He has lived alone in his home on East Court Avenue since that time.

In early manhood he united with the United Brethren Church. When he moved to Winterset he transferred his membership to the Church of Christ. He was always interested in the Kingdom, and was a constant reader of the Bible and other religious literature.

He was industrious and thrifty. In his dealings with his fellows he was honest. If he owed any man a debt he attempted to meet the obligation before the setting of the sun. He was a good neighbor, friendly, helpful and thoughtful of others.

His health has been failing for the past three years. He was taken to the Winterset Hospital Sunday, November 23rd following another stroke of paralysis, here he passed away on November 24th at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 9 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure, two children, three grand children and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Heston of Enid, Oklahoma and Stella of Canada, besides other relatives and friends.

Service held from Church of Christ by H. L. Olmstead at 2:30 Friday, November 28. Interment in Winterset cemetery.
