James Allen, Winterset

Funeral services for James D. "Bo" Allen, 65, were held today (Wed) at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Mr. Allen died June 20, 1993 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. A military graveside service was held at the North McDonald Cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born October 28, 1927 in Nahunta, Ga. to Andrew and Dora (Robinson) Allen. He married Virgie Field on October 17, 1948 in Carson City, Nev. Living here since 1950, he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Martensdale and was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Iowa battleship.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Allen and Terry Allen.

Surviving relatives include his wife Virgie of Winterset; three sons, James Allen of Norwalk, Merle Allen of Prole and Bud Allen of Winterset; two daughters, Vicki Dickinson of Prole and Linda Thomsen of Norwalk; two brothers, Delno Allen of Lake Park, Ga., and Bob Allen of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Sheba Dixon of Blackshear, Ga., and Dorothy Ramos of Pinetta, Fla., and eight grandchildren.
