Esther Allen, Mount Pleasant

Esther Allen, 88, of 607 Carol Ave., Mount Pleasant, died 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 1988, at the Maple Leaf Health Care Center, Mount Pleasant.

Born Dec. 6, 1899 near Stewart, she was the daughter of Arthur E. and Mary A. Pettingill Cook. She married William P. Allen Nov. 27, 1919 in Earlham. He died Aug. 27, 1972.

She was employed with the Iowa Wesleyan College Student Union for six years, with the maintenance staff of the First United Methodist Church for United Methodist Church for several years and with the Kozy Cafe before retiring after seven years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Golden Rule Sunday School class, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Henry County Republican Women's Association.

Surviving are two daughter, Martha Lucas, Mount Pleasant, and Mary Treharne, Bowie, Texas; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The service for Mrs. Allen was at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Weir Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Deborah Kiesey officiating. Burial in Earlham Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church.
