Daron Travis Allen, 24, of Ames died of cancer Dec. 3, 2001 at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor John Shaull officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 5) at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery.

Daron Allen was born Oct. 16, 1977, in Des Moines to Benjamin T. and Juanita Jean (Little) Allen. He was raised in Winterset, graduating from Winterset High School in 1996. Daron was currently a student at Iowa State University in Ames. He also was a counselor with the Heart Connection, an organization offering support for children with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ben and Carol Allen of St. Charles; his mother and stepfather, Juanita and Jim Fettkether of Winterset; girlfriend, Vicki McCarthy of West Des Moines; two brothers, Brad Allen (wife Jill) and Clayton Allen (wife Laurie), both of Peru; two stepbrothers, Jamey Meints of Woodbridge, Va., and Benjamin Fettkether of Des Moines, three stepsisters, Nicky Boecher of Naperville, Ill., Kristy Fetch of Winterset and Maria Fettkether of Des Moines; and grandparents, Russell "Junior" and Alberta Little and Bernice Allen, all of Winterset.
