Death of Mrs. M. P. Rippey

Mrs. Isabelle Loudon Rippey died May 7th at the home of her daughter. Mrs. James McKibban. She was the granddaughter of a Scotchman, Archibald Loudon, who came to this country in time to serve as a Revolutionary solder. The family settled in Pennsylvania, becoming leaders in the Presbyterian church, in which Mrs. Rippey was a lifelong member.

Sixty four years ago she married Dr. M. P. Rippey, a promising young physician of Keithsburg, Ill. Forty four years ago they located in Winterset, their first home being in the old Webster property, which stood on the present site of the public library. In later years, Dr. and Mrs. Rippey have lived with their only daughter in Lincoln township. One son, Loudon, lives in Audubon; the other son, John also a physician, died a number of years ago.

Mrs. Rippey retained her splendid mentality in spite of her advanced age-past ninety years. As the wife of an old time doctor, she was widely known and loved, her husband survives her.

Funeral services were held on Friday morning at Ord church, conducted by Dr. J. S. Corkey.

MORTUARY

Mrs. Isabell Rippey

Isabell, daughter of James and Mary Louden, was born in Carlyle Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, December 13th 1828. She was united in marriage to Dr. P. Rippey on August 18th 1855.

They made their home in Keithburg, Illinois for several years when they moved to Madison county, Iowa where they have since resided.

To this union were born six children, three dying in infancy, and the son, John, after growing to manhood in this county and attaining an enviable position in his profession of medicine, died in Kingsley, Iowa fourteen years ago. James Louden of Audubon and Sarah McKibban are the only surviving children.

Grandma Rippey has been a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, her father being an elder of that church for years in Carlyle, Pennsylvania. She died May 7th 1919 firm in the faith of a Christian.

Several years ago she became unable to care for a home and she and her husband have since lived with their daughter, Mrs. McKibban, who has tenderly and devotedly cared for them. She was a great reader and though she lived far beyond the years permitted to most of us, her intellec (intellect) was bright and she retained her interest in her friends and was a pleasure to them.

She leaves to mourn for her, her venerable husband, two children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Through the ministrations of her husband, the doctor, she has been a partner in the happiness and heartaches of the whole community and it was with the most tender memories of respect that a large audience gathered to do her honor at the funeral service which was held in the church at Ord on Friday morning at ten thirty, Rev. Corkey officiating.
