Obituary

Frank Stanley, son of Charles and Margaret Wolverton Stanley and eldest of 16 children, was born November 16, 1885 at Earlham, Iowa and departed this life December 2, 1969 at the age of 84 years and 16 days.

His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Earlham, where in early manhood he worked at home and on other farms for his neighbors and friends.

On September 4, 1912 he was united in marriage to Nettie Jane Clague, and their first home was established in the Bear Creek neighborhood, one mile west of the church.

To this union were born three children: Glenn, Dale and Lucile.

They lived on different farms until he purchased a farm in the Worthington neighborhood where they lived for 42 years. Six years ago they moved to Winterset where they might be more free to enjoy their golden years together.

One of the highlights of their many years together was the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary in 1962.

Frank’s chosen occupation was farming and his entire life was devoted to that calling which he enjoyed so much. After moving to town he would drive out to the farm almost daily. He was industrious and energetic and always gave himself wholeheartedly to any task that came his way.

Frank had been blessed with good health, able to drive his car and just recently obtained his driver’s license for future driving.

He was a kind and thoughtful husband and father, a good neighbor and was never happier than when a holiday or special occasion would bring all his children and grandchildren together. Such an occasion was celebrated recently on his 84th birthday.

He accepted Christ as his Savior at a revival meeting at Early Chapel church and was baptized and later became a faithful member of the Worthington church.

He became ill and was taken to the hospital in Winterset Monday afternoon, December 1, and passed away the following day.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his devoted companion of 57 years; two sons, Glen and Dale of Earlham, and one daughter, Lucile, now Mrs. James Smith of Earlham; also four brothers and two sisters: Clifford Stanley of Dexter, Cletus Stanley of Cumming, Ralph Stanley and Wayne Stanley of Earlham; Mrs. Leah Cook and Mrs. Helen Hougham, both of Earlham; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. Ward Young conducted the funeral service at Worthington church on Friday, December 5. Aaron Howell and Cyrus McDonald sang a duet accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Vernon White.

Casket bearers were Willis Bailey, Harold Beaman, John Hart, Guy Moore, Ivan Pryor and George Reinert. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
