Lewis Eliot Akers, 23, of St. Charles, formerly of the Corning area, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident Feb. 28, 2000, in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at Roland-Powers Funeral Home, 905 Benton Ave., Corning. Burial will be at Brooks Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, March, with the family present from 7-9 p.m.
Eliot Akers was born June 10, 1976, to Lewis Jr. and Edna (Harlow) Akers of Des Moines. A 1995 graduate of Interstate 35 High School, he received his associate of applied science degree in aviation maintenance at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa and a bachelor of arts degree in aviation management at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. He previously lived in Hartford until moving to St. Charles in 1985. Eliot was employed as an aviation mechanic for Des Moines Flying Service. He was formerly active with the Boy Scouts in St. Charles and was a pit crew member for his parents' stock car.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his parents of St. Charles and a sister, Dawn Hovick (husband Jeff) of Colfax.
