Page 1, Column 2Obituary - NETTIE STANLEY
Mrs. Frank Stanley passed away at the Maple Lin Manor in Earlham, Thursday March 9, 1972 at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Stanley, the former Nettie Jane Clague, daughter of Thomas and Mary Ray Clague, was born Dec. 16, 1886 near Berwick, Illinois. Nettie moved to Iowa with her parents when she was a little girl at the age of five or six years. They settled on a farm near Earlham in the Worthington Community and lived there or near there the remaining years of her life.
Nettie was united in marriage to Frank Stanley Sept. 4, 1912 and to this union three children were born: Glen, Dale and Lucile.
Nettie found and knew Jesus as her Savior and Master at an early age and later became a member of the Worthington United Methodist church. Here she enjoyed singing in the choir and working in the Women’s Society of Christian Service, of which she was a charter member. In her quiet and humble way she served her Lord throughout her able years. She was a devoted wife and mother and her love for her home, children, and grandchildren was deep and meaningful to her. In later years she found great satisfaction in working with flowers and sharing them with family and friends.
Nettie’s husband, Frank, preceded her in death in December of 1969. Her parents and five brothers, Charlie, Arnold, Willis, Everett and Glen also went before her.
Those who survive and feel their loss in her passing are her sons: Glen and Dale Stanley and her daughter Mrs. James Smith all of Earlham; her one sister, Mrs. Ben Hamilton of Georgetown, Texas; two brothers, Edgar and Ralph Clague of Winterset; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, March 12 at Worthington United Methodist church. Rev. Ward Young, officiating with burial at Earlham, cemetery.
