Clifford C. Imboden

EARLHAM - A funeral for Clifford C. Imboden, 81, of Earlham was held Oct. 20, 1990 at the Penn Center United Methodist Church near Earlham. Mr. Imboden died on Oct. 18 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of complications following surgery for a bowel obstruction. Burial was at the Penn Center Cemetery.

The son of Fred and Bertha Riser Imboden, he was born in Jackson Township on April 2, 1909. He married Helen Mary Haines on Aug. 6, 1932. Mr. Imboden, a retired farmer, was a lifelong Madison County resident and was a member of the Penn Center United Methodist Church. He had raised Angus cattle and Appaloosa horses, and was member of the Earlham Saddle Club for many years, serving two years as president. He also served as a board member of the Midwest Appaloosa Horse Club for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Iris.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; three sons, LaVern of Des Moines, Larree of Dexter and Russell of Yorba Linda, Calif.; two daughters, Marilyn Libby of Lorimor and Carolyn McConneleee (McConnelee) of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; a brother, Richard of Sun City West, Ariz.; two sisters, Ona Nelson of Nevada and Erma Thrailkill of Macksburg; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Clifford C. Imboden, the son of Fred and Bertha (Riser) Imboden, was born April 2, 1909 at the home of his parents in Jackson Township. He passed away October 18, 1990 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He attended Number Eight School in Penn Township and graduated from Earlham High School in 1928.

On August 6, 1932 Clifford was united in marriage to Helen Mary Haines. To this union five children were born: Marilyn Joann, Carolyn Lenore, Clifford Lavern, Russell Clarence and Larree Leray.

He was a lifetime member of the Penn Center United Methodist Church.

Clifford farmed all his life until retirement in 1975 when he moved to Earlham. He raised Angus cattle and Appaloosa horses. He was active in the Earlham Saddle Club for years, serving as president for two years. He also served as a board member of the Midwest Appaloosa Horse Club for a few years. After retirement he loved fishing, hunting, gardening and working with wood.

Clifford loved and was loved by his family, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death of his parents and his sister Iris. Survivors include his wife, Helen; three sons, Lavern and his wife Sheila of Des Moines, Russell and his wife Karen of Yorba Linda, California, Larree and his wife Pat of Dexter; two daughters, Marilyn Libby and husband David of Lorimor, and Carolyn McConnelee and husband Glenn of Anaheim Hills, California; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Richard of Sun City West, Arizona, and two sisters, Erma Thrailkill of Macksburg, Iowa and Ona Nelson of Nevada, Iowa.

Funeral services were held October 20, 1990 at Penn Center United Methodist Church, rural Earlham, Iowa with Reverend Nova Wells officiating. Marcella McCleary provided organ music. Pallbearers were Steven Imboden, Robert Imboden, Robert Harvey, Phillip Imboden, Dan Libby and Richard Harvey. Interment was in Penn Center Cemetery, rural Earlham, Iowa.
