Paul Robert Shifflett

EARLHAM - A funeral for Paul Robert Shifflett, 73, of Earlham was held Aug. 21, 1992 at the Worthington Methodist Church near Earlham, with burial following at Earlham Cemetery. Mr. Shifflett died of cancer on Aug. 17.

The son of Scott and Mary Price Shifflett, he was born at Earlham on May 1, 1919. He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, and worked for the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D. C. for 34 years. In April 1946, he married Jean Owens of Washington, D.C. She died when their daughter was a baby, and on May 27, 1951, he married Helen Moreland of Earlham. They lived at Accokeek, Md. until returning to the Earlham area in 1986.

He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church at Accokeek and, more recently, the Worthington United Methodist Church. He was member of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges at Earlham, the Earlham Lions Club, the Winterset Art Center and the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 135, at Des Moines.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol Shifflett Buchanan of Annandale, Va. And Linda Shifflett Lugo of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Dana Shifflett of Wichita, Kan. and Stephen Shifflett of Ames; two brothers, John Shifflett of Dubuque and Harry Shifflett of Richardson, Texas; and two sisters, Ruth Gealy of Gordon, Neb. and Esther Johnson of Camarillo, Calif.
