Page 1Mrs. Dan Swearingen Dies
Mrs. Dan Swearingen of Truro died at the hospital in Osceola Tuesday, May 10th, after an extended illness. Mrs. Swearingen was 70 years of age. Her funeral services were conducted at the Kale funeral home in Truro last Thursday by the Rev. Thomas Kelly.
Mrs. Swearingen was the former Jeanette Porter, daughter of Samuel and Mary Porter and was born near Patterson, on March 7, 1868. On May 4, 1891, she was married to Gilbert T. Smith, who died May 6, 1915. One daughter was born to this union, Mrs. Mabel Scott of Council Bluffs, who survives.
In December of 1920 she was married to Daniel Swearingen who died February 2, 1938.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Swearingen is survived by five grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Ella Johnstone of San Francisco, Cal.; Mrs. Mary Dodd of Osceola, Mrs. Rose Shenton of Perry and Mrs. Matilda Scott of Hot Springs, Mont.
Mrs. Swearingen united with the Baptist church when she was a girl. Upon moving to Truro, seventeen years ago, she united with the Methodist church in which she continued an active member.
