William Carroll, son of Walter S. and Leah Cook, was born near Earlham, Iowa on November 30, 1916 and passed away November 26, 1983 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Carroll graduated from the Redfield High School and Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. He taught and coached in the Boxholm and Eagle Grove High Schools before his enlistment in the Navy. He served 27 years in the ETO and South Pacific, retiring as a U.S. Navy Commander.

He was the father of four children: Billy, Betsey, Rachell, Paul and one stepson, Melvin.

He was a birthright member of the Bear Creek Friends Church and enjoyed attending when he came home to visit.

After his retirement he spent 10 years in London before returning to the States in 1977 making his home in Sherman Oaks, California.

Preceding him in death were his daughter, Betsey, and his father, Walter Cook.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Cook of Miami, Florida, and Paul Cook, of Encino, California; one daughter, Rachell, of Sherman Oaks, California; one step-son, Melvin Willson, of Encino, California; his mother, Leah Cook, of Earlham; three sisters, Marie Atherton and Helen Neal, of Dexter, and Velma Barnett, of Earlham, and one brother, Wayne Cook, of Stuart.

Funeral services were conducted November 30, 1983 at the Bear Creek Friends Church, Earlham, Iowa, with Pastor Wayne Anson officiating. Organ music was provided by Berneita Patience. Pallbearers were Otha Cook, Dick Cook, Richard Stanley, Robert Cook, Dale Stanley and Bruce Atherton. Interment was in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
