Darrell W. Mackay, a well-known resident of Winterset, died Thursday, Oct. 24, at Memorial hospital here. He was 72 years of age.
Mr. Mackay was a retired electrical engineer and school teacher, who had been a resident of Madison county for the last 30 years.
He was a native of Marshall, Minn., where he was born Oct. 24, 1896, a son of William J. and Elizabeth Marron Mackay. He graduated from Iowa State university in Ames with a degree in electrical engineering, and taught school at the high school level in Van Meter, Macksburg, Bondurant and Martensdale. He also served as V.F.W. service officer at the Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa City.
Mr. Mackay served in the U.S. navy during World War I, and the U.S. Maritime service during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Methodist church.
He was married June 12, 1922, at Winterset to Winter Wilson. Her death occurred in 1964.
Surviving are his twin daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Erickson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Meredith Whicker of Ottumwa; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. E. K. Burham, pastor of the First United Methodist church here. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with military honors.
