WALTER GARDNER, Winterset

Walter Elwyn Gardner, 81, of Winterset, died of a renal ailment April 22, 1996 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were Thurs., April 25 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. The Rev. John Shaull officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery. Winterset I.O.O.F. Lodge 316 provided a fraternal service.

He was born in Washington County on Jan. 15, 1915 to Walter J. and Edna (Sigafoose) Gardner. He married Opal Stone Lenninger on Nov. 28, 1965 at Hannibal, Mo. He was a retired salesman and a former owner and operator of Western Auto Store in Winterset. He had been a resident of Winterset since 1967. He had been a member of the Odd Fellows for 63 years and held state office in that organization. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winterset and had done volunteer work at the Madison County Elderly Services.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his wife; one son, Don Gardner and wife Loretta of Keota; three daughters, Beverly Limauro and husband Mike of West Haven, Conn., Janet Keisy and husband Jack of Washington, and Joy Scheer and husband Mike of Cedar Rapids; two stepsons, Robert E. Lenninger and wife Barbara of Winterset and Ronald W. Lenninger and wife Eileen of Indianola; the mother of his children, Mrs. Leona Gardner of Washington; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 geat-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
