This community was shocked by the sudden death of one of its prominent citizens early Wednesday morning.
George Edward Prohaska, the only son of Charles and Mary G. Prohaska, was born November 15, 1906 in Freemont, Nebraska, and passed away November 19, 1969.
On September 15, 1934 he was united in marriage with Luella May Walters.
The major part of his life was spent in Earlham, except for a Military Service during World War II. He enlisted on June 17, 1943 and was inducted into the service of his country July 17, 1943 at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He served overseas 28 months with Company C, 741st Railroad Operation Battalion. He was discharged from duty on November 14, 1945.
For over 40 years he was employed by the CRI&P Railroad. He belonged to the Brotherhood Way employees and was presently serving as president of the Grievance Committee.
George was a Christian, a daily reader of the Bible and contributed to the program of the church. He was always concerned with justice and the rights of people. He served the Town of Earlham as Mayor for three terms and was justice of peace for many years.
He was a member of the All American Legion Post 158 and was starting his 11th year as Adjutant of the Post.
He is survived by his wife, Luella; his mother, Mary G. Prohaska; his sister, Mrs. Otis R. Frances (Helen); two nephews, Robert Creighton of Fairbault, Minnesota, and Frank Lee of Riverton, Wyoming; by four grandnieces and one grandnephew; besides many other relatives and friends.
