Ferdinand Detrich Clausen was born on October 23, 1888, in Madison county, in a farm home south of Dexter. He was the oldest son of John Clausen and his wife, Johanna Ohrt Clausen.

Baptized in his infancy, he was later on confirmed in Zion Lutheran church at Dexter. He remained a loyal, active and devout member of this church all his life. At various times he was elected to positions of honor and trust in the congregation. At the time of his departure he was president of the Senior Fellowship Society.

With the exception of a short period of time when he served in the army during World War I, he lived his entire life in the Dexter community.

On March 7, 1920, he was united in marriage with Cora Belle Drake. Having no children of his own, he adopted a son and a daughter, giving them a fine Christian home.

He departed this life early last Tuesday morning, November 14, dying in his sleep as the result of a heart attack, at the age of 73 years and 11 days.

Surviving mourners include his wife, Cora; a son, Frederick living at home; a daughter, Mary Joan, the wife of Harvey Blaisdell, of Perry; two brothers, Walter and Richard Clausen, of Dexter; a sister, Mrs. William Boos, of Leon; five grandchildren; and a host of friends.

His funeral service was held in Zion Lutheran church at Dexter on Thursday, November 16, conducted by Pastor A. C. Weber. A ladies’ trio of the congregation sang appropriate funeral hymns. Mrs. Paul Clausen was the organist.

The casket bearers were Lawrence Marsh, Charles Willrich, Bert Jobst, Edward Blohm, Paul Clausen and Fred Morford. Roy Evans was the funeral director. His body was laid to rest in the Dexter cemetery.
