Obituary
Lilian Wilson Godby departed this life on the morning of October 6, 1954. Lilian was the daughter of Christopher and Martha Newby Wilson.
She was born in Penn township, Madison county on a farm purchased from the government by her grandfather over 100 years ago. She cherished the fact that the farm was yet in the possession of the family.
She received her education in the rural schools of Penn township and the Earlham Academy. On September 13, 1893 she married Clement Godby of Dover, England. On July 8, 1894 she with her husband united with the Earlham Presbyterian church and together they established their home on the principles of Christian faith. Her life of 81 years in this community bespeaks her character.
Her son, Robert Wilson, her husband and her grandson, William Clement Gist preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy and Marjorie, her son, Graham Wilson Godby and five grandchildren, Jean, John, Mary and Gretchen Godby, and Robert Graham Gist.
Of the four children who grew up in the Christopher Wilson home, she was the first to answer the call of death, leaving for the Grim Reaper, Clarence E. Wilson of San Francisco, California; Ida M. Griffin of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and Winifred Cooper of Miami, Florida.
