John Wilson Died July 20 At Age 85

John R. Wilson, resident of Madison County 40 years, retired from farming in 1958, died Thursday, July 20, 1978, at the age of 85. His death took place at the Villa West Care Center in Winterset.

He was born July 9, 1893, in Adair County, the son of David and Mary Jane Chambers Wilson. His marriage to Flossie Easter took place December 27, 1922 in Van Wert, Iowa.

Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War I and held membership in that veteran organization, also the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Flossie; two sons, Darrell of Springfield, Ill. and Maurice with the U.S. Navy in Dunoon, Scotland; two daughters, Mary Frances (Mrs. Glen) Almquist and Patricia (Mrs. Jack) Benoit, both of Winterset; two brothers, Bill of Sturart and George of Greenfield; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Anna Culber.

Funeral services for John Wilson were conducted Monday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m. from the First Christian Church of Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery, military graveside services observed. Officiating was the Rev. David Livingston.
