EARLHAM-A funeral for Verna Merl Ross, 100, of Dunlap and formerly of Earlham was held June 30, 1993 at the United Methodist Church at Earlham, with burial following at the Penn Center Cemetery in rural Madison County. Mrs. Ross died of a heart ailment on June 25 at Dunlap Care Center.
The daughter of Thomas and Susan Richard, she was born at Humeston on Jan. 21, 1893. She married Homer L. Ross on Sept. 28, 1913. They farmed in North Dakota and Humeston before moving to a farm near Earlham in 1935. Mrs. Ross was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women’s Society. She also was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union as long as it was in existence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by five sisters; and by one brother.
Survivors include a son, Donald Ross of Earlham; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
