Page 1, Column 2Margaret C. Ludlow was born in Moscow, Muscatine county, Iowa, November 1, 1838, and died in Winterset, Iowa, August 30th, aged 68 years and 10 months. In early girlhood she became a christian, uniting with the Christian church.
From Muscatine county she came to Winterset, where she was married in 1858 to James S. Moore, who died in 1868. To this union were born four children, Benjamin L. who died October 26, 1899, Marsella A., who now resides in Oregon, and Dora E. and Leonard R., who are residents of this county, and were present at the death of their mother. They did all that loving hands could do, but from the time she was stricken she gradually sank till she was called home.
Mrs. Moore is said to have been the first white child born in Muscatine county, if not the first in the territory, before Iowa became a state. After the death of her husband she remained on the farm till the death of her son, after which she went west to visit her daughter. After returning, she came to Winterset, where she has since resided.
She united with the Winterset Christian church very early in its history, and was interested in all the affairs of the church until the very last week of her life. She had served on various committees, was an ordained deaconess, and always faithful to her duty. She was of a cheery disposition, and many times was a great encouragement to her pastor. Her record is made. She has answered the call. She was faithful until death.
The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon 2:30 from her late home, and the earthly house was laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. E. E. Bennett.
