HATTIE B. ARCHER DIES AT 88 YEARS

Member of Pioneer Family In St. Charles Died Saturday

Mrs. Hattie B. Archer, member of one of the pioneer families of St. Charles, died Saturday, April 30, at a nursing home there. She was 88 years of age.

Mrs. Archer was the former Hattie B. Houston, daughter of Franklin and Susan Brummett Houston. She was born May 1, 1872, in Clarke county. Sixty-two years of her life had been spent in Madison county. As a young woman, she was a school teacher.

She was married March 30, 1898, to Gabriel Lewis Archer. His death occurred in 1935.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. Hazel M. Smith of St. Charles, O. Franklin Archer of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Gwendolyn Boren of Torrance, Calif., and Mrs. Marguerite Frey of Winterset. She also leaves nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Pendarvis of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the St. Charles Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. W. C. Trembly. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
