Wilbur Haxton Beeson, 91, died Nov. 14, 2001, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday Nov. 17, at the Presbyterian Church in Earlham with the Rev. Dr. Ray Martin officiating. Burial was at Earlham cemetery.
Wilbur Beeson was born March 16, 1910 in Madison County to Harvey Stalwart and Minnie Belle Haxton Cook Beeson. He had resided in Madison County his entire life except for his high school years, which were spent in Gotebo, Okla. Following his marriage to Mary Ellen Spencer in 1933, he and his wife farmed in Madison County around the Pitzer, Lorimor and Earlham areas. In the early 1950s, they purchased and operated the Earlham DX Service Station until his retirement in 1969. During their retirement years they had resided in Florida and Arkansas. He and his wife moved to West Bridge Care in April 1999. Wilbur was a member of Madison Masonic Lodge 568 in Earlham (50 years plus), Earlham Eastern Star Lodge 294, Masonic Consistory of Des Moines and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two sisters.
He is survived by a daughter, Pauline B. Wilson of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Alta Tice of Caldwell, Idaho; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham.
