BILL DAVIS, Winterset

William Lloyd Davis, 68, of Winterset died of a lung ailment May 12, 2003, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.

Bill Davis was born June 27, 1934, in Winterset to William Russell and Frances Cleo (Brittain) Davis. On Nov. 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Louise Peterson in Key West, Fla. After growing up in Winterset, he resided in various places throughout the United States before moving to Waterloo in 1964. In 1974, he and his family moved to Winterset. Bill was retired from Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Winterset where he had been a loan officer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a trustee for the Krabiel Scholarship Fund. He also was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Eddie Kirkland.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Winterset; two sons, Steven J. Davis of Madison, Wis., and Joel E. Davis of Algona; a daughter, Paula R. Sheil of Pella; four sisters, Phyllis Mitchell of West Des Moines, Irma Hohneke of Urbandale, Saundra Funke of Des Moines and Dee Hansen of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
