Doris Clague, Earlham

Doris Marie Clague, 73, of Earlham, died of congestive heart failure June 4, 1997 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were June 7 at the Early Chapel Church in rural Earlham. Pastor David Clark officiated the services and burial was at the Earlham Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 23, 1923 to Herm and Maude D. (Rankin) Palmer in rural Madison County. She married Maurice Read in 1944 and later married John Clague at the Early Chapel Church on March 18, 1972. She was a member of the Early Chapel Christian Church and was a past member of the Winterset Rebecca Lodge. She had been district supervisor for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, having retired in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one brother; and one step-son.

Surviving relatives include her husband, John Clague of Earlham; one son, Dennis E. Read and wife Heddy of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters Nancy M. Gorham and husband Dewey of Earlham and Joanne Wetrich and husband Jim of Des Moines; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
