ARTHUR MARKS DIED TUESDAY AT EARLHAM

Arthur Marks, a retired livestock buyer at Earlham, died there Tuesday, Dec. 22. He was 82 years of age, and had lived at Earlham for half a century.

He is survived by his wife, but leaves no children.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Earlham Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Paul Fotsch, assisted by the Rev. Willard Reynolds.

ARTHUR MARKS

Arthur Marks, a long-time resident of Madison county, was born in Galesburg, Illinois, August 25, 1877 and passed away suddenly at his home Tuesday, December 22, 1959.

Mr. Marks was one of nine children born to Pleasant and Mary McCoy Marks. His early years were spent in farming. On December 21, 1904 he was united in marriage to Verna Pease. A year later they moved to a farm near Earlham and four years later moved to town and have lived here the past 49 years.

He was associated with the Adel Sales for nineteen years. In his work he became acquainted with people for miles around. through this wide acquaintance he made innumerable friends. These friends knew Arthur Marks for his high ethical standards, his personal integrity and his great sense of humor. Arthur Marks was a friend to all, old and young alike; his passing will be missed by many.

For many years he was active in the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Des Moines Consistory and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

He leaves to mourn in passing his wife, Verna, one brother Warren, a sister Mrs. Fern Peacok, both of Galesburg, Illinois; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services were held on December 24 at the Earlham Methodist church. Officiating were Rev. Paul Fotsch and Rev. Willard Reynolds. The Masonic rites were conducted by Ralph Erb. Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery.
