Winterset Madisonian - July 1907

Benjamin Moore was born in Washington county, Penn., February, 1824, and was married to Miss Margarett A. Dowler, Jan. 12th, 1848.

Came to Madison county, Iowa, in 1867, where he lived up to the time of his death which occurred July 3rd, 1907, at East Peru.

To Mr. and Mrs. Moore were born nine children, four of them died in infancy, and one Mrs. Geo. Ruth, of Winterset, died November 25th, 1904. Mrs. Moore died Dec. 28th, 1893. His three daughters, Mrs. David Gentry, Mrs. Jesse Cole and Mrs. Jake Garst were with him during his last sickness. His son, John Moore, of Nelson, Nebr., arrived in time for the funeral services.

During his long period of sickness, of over two months, he was patient while suffering and was frequently heard to say: "What ever is God's will, will be right." He looked for a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

He was a loving father, and a devoted husband. He had been reared in the Presbyterian faith from childhood. While the body has been laid away in the sepulcher, his soul has gone to its eternal home. Our loss which is very heavy to the children and causes their hearts to bleed on account of their affections for father, yet it is the change which all must pass through in order to enjoy eternal felicity with God.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church in Winterset, conducted by Rev. D. W. Thompson, of Legrand, assisted by Rev. E. E. Bennett, pastor of the Winterset Christian church, July 5th, 1907, at 1:00 o'clock.
