George A. Croft Services Held

George A. Croft, 77, of 1015 Creston Avenue, Des Moines, died from cancer Sept. 11, 1977 at Veteran's Hospital. He was born November November 27, 1899, in Winterset, the son of George W. and Alice M. Croft.

In 1922, he married June M. Landis of Peru; they recently observed their 55th wedding anniversary. Besides his widow, Mr. Croft is survived by two sons, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. The sons are George W. of Des Moines and Robert L., a major in the U.S. Air Force. He is also survived by his younger brother, Frank. C. Croft, of San Diego, California, a retired major general of the Marines.

Mr. Croft was graduated from Winterset High School in 1916. He attended Grinnell College and Drake University before completing his education at Iowa State College in 1922. He was a member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church which he served as elder, trustee and deacon; the Masonic Lodge and Alpha Sigma Phi national college fraternity. He volunteered for the Army in World War I and was a charter member of Green Rogers American Legion Post at Winterset.

He was information officer of the Iowa Office of Price Administration (OPA) during World War II and later was employed by Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He retired in 1965.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Sept. 19, at Dunns South Side Funeral Home in Des Moines. Masonic services were conducted at the grave. Burial was in Glendale Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
