Frances F. Hood, 81, of Winterset, died of respiratory failure Dec. 17, 2001, at Madison Conty Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Jom Howland officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.
Frances Hood was born May 19, 1920 in Madison County to Clarence and Florence (Marston) Fife. A 1939 graduate of Winterset High School, she married Dean E. Hood on Oct. 17, 1939. A resident of Madison County for many years, she also resided in Indianola from 1951 to July of 2000, when she moved to Winterset. She had been employed in Des Moines with a credit bureau as a collector for several years. Following her retirement, she was a house mom at Iowa State University, and later at Simpson College. Frances was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset and a former member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann Gilmore (husband Bob) of Riverside, Calif. and Kay Frances Barfels of Dubuque; two sons, Larry Dean Hood (wife Kathy) of Pittsburg, Pa., and Jerry Paul Hood of Lees Summit, Mo.; a daughter-in -law, Laurie Nelson-Hood of Des Moines, twin sisters, Lura Beaman and Laura Welch, both of Indianoa; a brother, Eldon Fife (wife Pauline) of Norwalk; a sister-in-law, Marion Hood of Winterset; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset.
