Jay was the son of Frank and Leone (Brown) Nevitt, born August 6, 1921 in Guthrie County. Jay grew up on the family farm northeast of Menlo, and graduated from Menlo High School in 1940.

Jay married his high school sweetheart Beulah Varley at the Jefferson Center Church February 14, 1942. Born to this union were eight children: Emily Binning and husband Gordon of Salmon, Idaho; Mary Koboldt and husband Bruce of Earlham, Iowa; Jayne Smith and husband Larry of Perry, Iowa; Tom Nevitt and wife Linda of Perry, Iowa; Bob Nevitt and wife Barb of Perry, Iowa; Jim Nevitt and wife Sherrie of Menlo, Iowa; Patti Kenworthy and husband Dick of Earlham, Iowa; Carol Nordeen and husband Dan of Lansing, Michigan. Jay and Beulah lived and raised their family on their farm south of Dexter where they have resided for 55 years. There they farmed and raised angus cattle for over 20 of those years. Jay was employed by Oscar Meyer and Bentler Oil until her retired to enjoy his years with Beulah. He loved spending his time in the garden, growing flowers and vegetables which he enjoyed canning for family and friends. He loved to spend the afternoon with a fishing pole in hand and hunting in the evenings. He and Beulah enjoyed making cookies and other goodies for the grandchildren and family members.

Jay loved the Lord, and have his life to Him in 1973. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He enjoyed being with his family and encouraging family members in all they did. He was our biggest fan, as we were his.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Leone; father, Frank; brothers, Jim Nevitt, and Frank Nevitt; sisters Kate Boblett and Iris Rasmussen; and 3 son-in-laws, Rick Reynolds, Dan DePue, and Lewis Keele.
