Virginia W. Morford, 72, of West Des Moines died of cancer May 25, 2003, at the Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Memorial services were held Sunday, June 8, at the Earlham Community Center with Pastor Ernie Baiotto officiating. A private inurnment of the cremains was at Dexter Cemetery.

Virginia Morford was born Sept. 16, 1930, to Gerald George and Leone Estella Mae “Billy” (Coulter) Wells of Dexter. She was a 1948 graduate of Dexter High School and a 1967 graduate of Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines. In 1949, she married Carroll Bond at the Dexter Methodist Church. She owned Virginia’s Beauty Shop in Earlham until 1981, when she sold the shop and moved to Dayton, Ohio, to co-own and operate a restaurant with her sister. In 1984, she moved back to Earlham and returned to work at Connie’s Creative Hair Design, where she worked as a hairdresser and licensed massage therapist until her retirement in 2001. She also taught yoga classes privately and through adult education for over 30 years.

On Oct. 22, 2001, she married Marvin Morford aboard Holland America’s Rotterdam Cruise Ship in Monaco Harbor. Virginia was a member of the VIMS Bridge Club of Earlham, Dexter/Earlham/Stuart Bridge Marathon Club and Cardettes Bridge Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary Bond; and three brothers, Robert Wells, Richard Wells and Paul Wells.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of West Des Moines; a daughter, Christine Bond Scar of Earlham; a son, Patrick Bond of Orlando, Fla.; a nephew, Mark Wells of Pueblo, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Claudia Hoskins of Storm Lake; a stepson, Brad Morford of West Des Moines; a sister, Connie Weber of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-nephew.
