Barbara Ann Marston, Des Moines

March 8, 1930 - July 15, 2003

Barb Marston, 73, died July 15, 2003, of cancer at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

The cremains will be buried in the Earlham Cemetery in a private service. Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4, 2003, at the Jester Park Lodge.

Barb was the firstborn of Gale Marston and Lola Gayle (Wykoop) Marston. She grew up on the farm in Madison County, attended country schools through eight grade and graduated from Earlham High School in 1947. After graduating from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), she taught for a short time at Humboldt, Iowa. From that time until her retirement, she cooked for the Des Moines Park and Recreation Commission.

During college, Barb was a summer camp counselor at Camp Hantesa. She remained active as a volunteer and staunch supporter of Campfire programs and the organization. Barb's lifelong love of books and reading led to collecting for her own library, membership in the Mystery Club and volunteering as a sorter/pricer for The Book Works. In retirement, she enjoyed concerts, plays, travel and the company of many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ted Marston.

Barb is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Marston of Kirkland, Wash.; and her nephew, Grant and his wife Ligaya of Dublin, Calif.
