1967JESSE DUNCAN OF WINTERSET DIES
Death Occurs in Oklahoma While Visiting Relatives at Okemah
Jesse T. Duncan of Winterset, a Madison county resident for 48 years, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Okemah, Okla., while visiting there. He was 73 years of age.
Mr. Duncan was well-known as a business man in Winterset. He operated the Phillips 66 Service station here for many years, before failing health forced his retirement.
He was a native of West Plains, Mo., where he was born Jan. 22, 1894, a son of Frank A. and Mary Ellen Duncan. As a young man he served in the U.S. armed forces during World War I.
He was married at Winterset on Dec. 25, 1920, to Leona Addy, who survives him.
Mr. Duncan was a member of First Methodist church of Winterset.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dick. D. Duncan of Minneapolis, Minn., a daughter, Mrs. Jack Brower of Des Moines. He also leaves three brothers, C. A. Duncan of Okemah, Okla., Fred Duncan of Stigler, Okla., and Roy Duncan of Seaside, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Burroughs of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Ada Ware of Brandsville, Mo., Mrs. Ida Meyers of Anadarko, Okla., and Mrs. Ruth Wetzel of San Jose, Calif.
Funeral services were held Friday from the First Methodist church at Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Everett K. Burham. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with grave-side ritual by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.
