Betty Jean Flanery, 78, died of multiple system organ failure Nov. 10, 2001, at Winterset Care Center South.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn officiating. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date at Winterset Cemetery.
Betty Flanery was born June 14, 1923, in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Thomas Benjamin and Maude (Rook) Corbin. She married Paul Flanery on Jan. 16, 1943 in Sioux Falls, Besides living in Sioux Falls, she also had resided in several towns and cities throughout South Dakota and northern Iowa. She had lived in Mason City before moving to Winterset 39 years ago. Betty had retired as a clerk for the former Flanery Pharmacy in Winterset. She had been a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary since 1965.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
She is survived by her husband , Paul of Winterset; a son, Dan Flanery (wife Deb) of Stewartville, Minn.; a daughter, Nancy McKnight (husband Vern) of Osceola; a sister, Vi Ingalls of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset.
