Robert Pilmer, Winterset

G. Robert "Bob" Pilmer, 88, of Winterset Oct. 22, 2003, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 25, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with Pastors Jim Howland and Dennis Shepherd officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Bob Pilmer was born Aug. 11, 1915, to George and Helen (Cameron) Pilmer of Esmond. S.D. His marriage to Esther Tyer took place on March 17, 1939, in Winterset. A longtime resident of the Winterset area, Bob spent most of his life as a farmer, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Winterset (75-year membership), I.O.O.F. of Winterset, Madison County Farm Bureau (over 50 years), M & W Farm Service Board of Directors (15 years) and the Winter-Sets Square Dance Club. He also served one term as board director of Hooten School, served on the Lincoln Township Board of Trustees and was a 4-H leader and member, receiving the 4-H Family of the Year Award in 1965. He and his wife were honored as king and queen of the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Pilmer of Winterset; two daughters, Roberta Johnson of Orient and Mary Miller of Peru; two sisters, Mary Alice Winters of California and Ruth Newbury of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset or to his family.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
