John S. Priest, well-known resident of the Peru community for nearly all of his life, died last Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1965, at a Des Moines hospital. He was 86 years of age.
Mr. Priest was born at New London, in Henry county, on April 5, 1879, a son of John and Elizabeth Jane Priest. When he was 2 years of age he came with his parents to Madison county. During the remainder of his life he lived on the same farm in the Peru community. He engaged in farming and was active until about a year prior to his death.
He was married in 1906 to Margaret Elva Travis. They were parents of a son and a daughter. The wife and mother died in 1956. Since her death he had made his home with his son, on the home place.
Surviving are the son, Amel Priest of Peru; the daughter, Mrs. Neva Draper of Des Moines; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Peru Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. James Nicholson. Burial was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.

John Shirley Priest, lifelong resident of Madison county, died in a Des Moines hospital Wednesday, Dec. 1. He was 86 years old. Services under the direction of Kale Funeral Home of Truro were held at the Peru Methodist church. Saturday, Dec. 4 with Rev. James Nicholson officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer cemetery.
Mr. Priest was born in Henry county on April 5, 1879, as son of John and Elizabeth Roberts Priest. He received his education in the schools of Madison county and was married to Margaret Elva Travis at Peru on April 25, 1906.
Survivors include a son and daughter, Amel Priest of Peru and Mrs. Neva Draper of Des Moines.
