Death of Vernor Kendig

Vernor Kendig, son of A. J. Kendig, died of consumption, at his father’s home last Sunday. His sudden death is a matter of sincere public grief, as he has lived among us nearly all his life and was a young man of generous, kind-hearted disposition and industrious habits.

Phil Sheridan Vernor Kendig was born in Winterset, Iowa, June 17, 1866, and died in the same place Aug. 23, 1891, aged 25 years, 2 months and 8 days.

He married Miss May Harris at Atlantic, Iowa, Aug. 13, 1888, who, with an infant son remain to mourn his death. Besides a host of friends wherever he lived he leaves a father and sister. His mother died in 1870 when he was only 4 years old. His sickness was brief and his death sudden, for though rapidly failing in health no one looked for his death immediately. Vernor was not connected with any church but expressed during his sickness and only a few days before his death a strong hope of salvation through a personal faith in the Savior. He was a printer by trade and had worked in both offices in this town and in Atlantic. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the stricken family. He was buried on Tuesday afternoon from the M. E. church, Rev. C. L. Nye, officiating.

Death of Vernor Kendig

Vernor Kendig, son of A. J. Kendig, died at his father's residence Sunday afternoon at four o'clock. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church, Rev. Nye preaching the funeral sermon. His disease was consumption.

The deceased was a young man 25 years old, born in Winterset, a printer who learned his trade in the News office. He went to Atlantic several years ago where he worked in the office of the Atlantic Democrat. Three years ago he was foreman for a short time in the News office, but afterward went back to Atlantic where he worked in the office of the Democrat as foreman.

He was married to Miss Harris, of Atlantic, about three years ago and they have one son, a great little boy, about one year old.

Vernor was attacked with the grip last spring and it speedily developed into consumption. He came home from Atlantic a few weeks ago with the knowledge that his death was only a matter of short time.

The pallbearers at his funeral were all local printers. There were a great number of friends and relatives from other places to attend the funeral.
