Clyde J. Brittain, 88, of Winterset died of heart failure Oct. 7, 1999 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 11, at Earlham United Methodist Church with Pastor Alberta Ervin officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.
Clyde Brittain was born Jan. 30, 1911, to Joseph and Alcy (Jennings) Brittain of Earlham. He was a 1929 graduate of Earlham High School. He married Mildred M. Prior on May 20, 1933, in Prescott. She preceded him in death in December of 1987. His second marriage was to Lodine Kneller on Sept. 30, 1989 in Lorimor. A farmer, he was the recipient of the Jack Shelley Skelly Outstanding Farm Citizen Award. Clyde served for many years on the Earlham School Board, a long-time member of the Earlham Lions Club and had the longest continuing membership in the Earlham United Methodist Church, beginning in December of 1923. He also was a member of the Four Bums comedy and magic act.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred, and one grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Lodine of Winterset; a daughter, Janet Williamson (husband Jim) of Cedar Falls; two sons, Marlin Brittain (wife Gretchen) of Earlham and Keith Brittain (wife Bev) of Stuart; two stepdaughters, Sharon Friedrickson (husband Ron) of Bondurant and Karel Ruttenburg (husband Jerry) of Chino Hill, Calif.; a stepson, Bill Kneller (wife Debbie) of Winterset; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Earlham United Methodist Church.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset.
