Fern K. Cord, Winterset

Fern Kathryn Cord, 95, died Feb. 9, 2002 of complications of hip surgery at Younker Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Fern Cord was born Oct. 30, 1906, to Walter A. and Bessie (Davis) Cord. She was a 1924 graduate of Winterset High School. Fern had taught at the Madison Township School and also had been a clerk at Harrison's 5 & 10 Store. She was a member of Crown Rebekah Lodge 360, Town & Country Club, Canasta Club and the First Christian Church in Winterset. A lifetime resident of Winterset, she had resided at North Ward Plaza for 15 years before moving to Winterset Care Center South.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

She is survived by a sister, Helen G. Day of Winterset; a niece Jane Hein of Houston, Texas; and a nephew, Larry Ferris of Bel Alton, Md.
