The Rev. Charles Updike of Beaverton, Ore., died July 31, 2003.
A memorial service will be held Thursday evening, Aug. 7, at the Beaverton Foursquare Church in Beaverton, Ore.
Rev. Updike had been one of the associate pastors at the Beaverton Foursquare Church since 1984. Previously, he was pastor of the Winterset Foursquare Church for 25 years and the Oak Grove Community Church. While living in Winterset, he had been very involved with the community. He served as president, coach and umpire in the Little League organization, helped promote youth football and basketball for fifth and sixth grade boys and girls and was involved with the Red Cross swimming program, serving as director for 21 years. In January 1984, he was named male "Citizen of the Year".
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Updike, of Beaverton, Ore.; four sons, Blake Updike of Norwalk, Steve Updike of St. Paul, Minn., and Mike Updike and Sam Updike, both of Portland, Ore. area amd Amy Updike Fielder of Oshkosh, Wis.; a sister, Claudette Manny of Winterset; and 21 grandchildren.
