Carl Henry Smith, 72, of Winterset, died March 31, 1979, at Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Helmers officiating. Burial was in the McDonald Chase Cemeery.

The son of Ernest R. and Grace Richie Smith, he was born on November 9, 1906 in Douglas Township, Madison County. In June of 1945 he was married to Thelma Husted in South Dakota.

An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith was a farmer and retired in 1971. He lived in Winterset after his retirement.

Survivors include his wife Thelma; a son, Russell of Norwalk; two daughters, Wanda Jones of Des Moines and Linda Kay Smith of Norwalk; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
