THELMA SMITH, Winterset

Thelma Maxine Smith, 85, of Winterset died March 9, 2006, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 13, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Douglas Township, Madison County.

Thelma Smith was born June 16, 1920, in Madison County to Elwin and Lillie Maude (Mongan) Husted. On June 25, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carl H. Smith in Huron, S.D. A longtime resident of Winterset, Thelma had been a housekeeper at the former Bethesda Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Norman Husted and Richard Husted.

She is survived by one son, Russell Smith of Elkhorn, Neb.; two daughters, Wanda Jones of Norwalk and Linda Smith of Metuchen, N.J.; a brother, Kenneth Husted of Newton; a step-brother, Gary Conner of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.
