Maxine Morris, 86, passed away March 9, 2006, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, at the Winterset United Methodist Church with burial at Winterset Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 - 7:30 p.m. March 13 with family in attendance. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church.
Maxine Shorb Morris was born Oct. 25, 1919, in rural Jackson Township, Madison County, Iowa, to Franklin P. and Elsie Jean (Ford) Shorb. She attended Jackson Township rural school and graduated from Earlham High School in 1937. On Sept. 26, 1941, she was united in marriage with Loren Ritter, who died suddenly Feb. 1, 1947. On Sept. 19, 1953, she married George S. Morris of Winterset and spent 52 wonderful years together. They lived on the family farm overlooking Middle River in Webster Township until moving to Winterset in February 1992.
Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mable Sprunger, also of Winterset.
She is survived by her husband, George, two sons, Sterling Morris and wife Sally (Anderson) of Winterset and Craig F. and wife Kay (Duffens) and their two daughters, Elizabeth G. and Ana S. Morris, of Pullman, Wash.
Maxine was a very outgoing, caring person who touched many in the community. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and Women's Society of Christian Service. She also was a member of the Tri-L Book Club, Winterset Art Center and Toastmasters. She was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course. Maxine also had a special talent for poetry and painting.
