Death of Sharleen Travis

Sharleen Travis, sixteen year old daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Warren Travis, died at her home, Friday, October 12th, after an extended illness.

The girl was born near Winterset, March 16, 1918, and her early education was obtained in the rural schools and in the Peru consolidated school. She was graduated from the Winterset junior high in May, 1931, and has since attended the Winterset high school when her health would permit. Due to a major illness, she was unable to return to school in the fall of 1932, but carried on her schoolwork at home, and kept up with her class. She later was again able to attend school until February 8, 1934, and would have been graduated at the close of the present school year, had her health permitted.

While in high school she took part in the musical activities. She joined the First Baptist church of Winterset, May 5, 1929, and was active in the church organizations.

The girl is survived by her parents, Mr. And Mrs. W. B. Travis; her grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. W. S. Woodward and Mr. And Mrs. T. H. Travis, and many relatives and friends.

Her pastor, the Rev. Fred W. Madson, conducted her funeral services Sunday afternoon, October 14th, at 3 o’clock, at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery. A. P. Henry, superintendent of the local schools, spoke for the high school students, and D. V. Clements, music instructor, sang a solo. Four friends, June Simmons, Mary Eckstein, Mary Abrahams and Vivian Gamble were flower girls and the pall bearers were Ollie Haines, Loren Jones, Asa Armstrong, Melvin Jones, Clarence Algoe and M. B. Holmes.
