EMERSON, AGE 63 DIED LAST FRIDAY

Funeral services for Derry James Emerson were held Monday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset.

Mr. Emerson died Friday, June 21, at Madison County Memorial hospital. He was 63 years of age.

The son of James and Lyda Ann Miller Emerson, he was born at Peru on Nov. 4, 1899. On July 20, 1920, he was married to Cepha Leona Kirsch at Winterset.

Mr. Emerson was a farmer, and lived most of his life in Madison county. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Paul D. Emerson of Iowa City; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Hildebrand of Martensdale, Mrs. Rose Ann McNeer of Newton, Mrs. Carrol Warhola of Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Marjorie Singer of Martensdale; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Simmons of Winterset and Mrs. Birdie Shearer of Peru; and two brothers, Arnie and Loyal Emerson of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Grace Marie, who died in infancy.

Officiating at the requiem high mass Monday morning was Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial was in St. Marys cemetery at St. Marys, Iowa.
