Rites At Truro For J. F. Reed

J. F. Reed, Sr., a former prominent businessman in the Truro community, died last Thursday March 3rd, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 77 years of age.

John Fred Reed, Sr. was born Oct. 20, 1899 at Truro, the son of David Frank and Julia Banker Reed. He graduated from Truro high school in 1919 an attended Highland Park College in Des Moines and Iowa State University at Ames.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Navy.

He was married to Honor Creger at Truro on Oct. 2, 1919.

For a long number of Years, Mr. Reed operated a produce business and lumber yard in Truro. He was a member of the Truro United Methodist Church. In recent years he had resided in Winterset and Palmetto, Florida.

He is survived by three sons, Fred Reed Jr., of Truro and twins, Herbert T. Reed and Harry F. Reed, both of Winterset; also nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eulalia Reed of Ross, Calif.

Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his wife Honor, and one brother, Wendell Reed.

Funeral services were held Sunday March 6th, at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church at Truro, with Rev. Paul Bousfield of Winterset and Rev. David Wagner of Truro officiating. Burial was in Young Cemetery near Truro.

Fred Reed Rites March 6

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, for former Truro resident, John Fred Reed, Sr., 77, who died Thursday, March 3, at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset. The Rev. David Wagner of Truro and Rev. Paul G. Bousfield of Winterset officiated at the 2 p.m. services which was held from the United Methodist Church in Truro.

John Fred Reed, Sr. was born October 20, 1899, in Truro, Iowa, son of David Frank Reed and Julia Banker Reed. He graduated from Truro High School in 1919 and attended Highland Park College and Iowa State University. He was married to Honor Creger on October 2, 1919 in Truro. Three children were born to this union. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I and was engaged in the produce and lumber business upon his return.

He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Truro.

Survivors include his son, Fred Reed Jr. and wife, Dorris of Truro; son, Herbert T. Reed and wife, Dorothy of Winterset; son, Harry F. Reed and wife, Virginia of Winterset; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Eulalia Reed of Ross, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Honor; and one brother, Wendell.

Interment was in Young Cemetery, Truro.
