Dorothy "Dottie" Lucille Reed, Winterset

Funeral services for Dorothy "Dottie" Lucille Reed, 62, were held Wed. Dec. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She died December 2, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A resident of Winterset for the past 33 years, and prior to that in Truro, she was born on a farm in Clarke County, February 24, 1928 to Hazel and Grace (Reel) Durfey. She attended Truro Consolidated Schools and graduated from Truro High School. She was married to Herbert Reed May 5, 1946. She was a member of Bible Study Fellowship, Harmony Guild, United Methodist Women, Daughter of the Nile and First United Methodist Church of Winterset.

Mr. Reed was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Bill Durfey

Surviving are her husband, Herbert of Winterset; sons, John of Winterset, Fred of Des Moines and Shamil Sermet of Ames; a daughter, Mary Louise Alles of Winterset; her mother Gracie Husted of Truro and 12 grandchildren.

Burial was at Young Cemetery near Truro

Wednesday services held for “Dottie” Reed, 62

Services were Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset for Dorothy “Dottie” Lucille Reed, of Rural Route 3, Winterset, who died Dec. 2, 1990, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 62.

The Rev. Clarence Lautt and the Rev. John Shaull of Winterset officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Burial was in Young Cemetery at Truro, Kale Funeral Home of Truro and Osceola was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Reed, the daughter of Hazel Fern and Gracie Reel Durfey was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Clarke County. She attended Truro schools and graduated from Truro High School in 1945.

She married Herbert T. Reed on May 5, 1946, at Truro. A homemaker, Mrs. Reed lived in Winterset for 33 years and was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Bible Study Fellowship, Harmony Guild United Methodist Women and First United Methodist Church at Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Bill Durfey.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Herbert T. Reed of Winterset; three sons, John Bruce Reed and his wife, Jane, of Winterset, Fred Herbert Reed and his wife, Julie, of Des Moines and Samil Sermet and his wife, Beth, of Ames; two daughters, Mary Louise Alles and her husband, John, of Winterset and Honor Annette Sears and her husband, Dr. Joel, of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren and her mother, Gracie Husted of Truro.

DOROTHY LUCILLE REED

WINTERSET, IA. — Services for Dorothy Lucille “Dotty” Reed of Winterset will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church here, and burial will be in Young Cemetery at Truro. Mrs. Reed, 62, died of cancer Sunday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Born in Clarke County, she had been a homemaker and moved to Winterset 33 years ago. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, Harmony Guild, the Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert; two sons, John of Winterset and Fred of Des Moines; a foster son, Samil Sermit of Ames; two daughters, Mary Louise Alles of Winterset and Honor Sears of Iowa City; her mother, Gracie Husted of Truro; and 12 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the family’s home here. Kale Funeral in Truro is in charge of arrangements.
