Page 1Sorrow has come to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McLarnand, death claiming their only son, Samuel E. McLarnand, who died on the 23rd following six weeks of illness. His death was caused by spinal meningitis following a severe attack of la grippe.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ on Tuesday and burial in the Winterset cemetery. A brief obituary sketch appears elsewhere in this paper.

Wednesday, March 27, 1912Samuel Edward, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McLarnand, was born in Union township, in Madison county, Jan. 1, 1887 and died at the home of his parents in Winterset on March 24, 1912, aged 25 years, 2 months and 23 days.
At the age of 15, he was converted and united with the Maple Grove church and about 2 years ago, united with the Church of Christ here.
He lived an earnest, faithful, conscientious christian life. He has always been of exemplary habits and will be greatly missed in the home where all was done that loving hearts and hands could do. He will be missed also from the church, and bible school, at which services he was faithful in his attendance.
There remain to mourn his death, his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Chas. Piatt, of Earlham, Mrs. Sylvia Griswold of Macksburg, and Leila, also many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Church of Christ, March 26th at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis, interment at Rock City cemetery.
