Dale Mapes, Winterset

Services for Ernest Dale Mapes, 63, of rural Winterset, who died Oct. 9 at Osceola, Mo., were held Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Updike officiating. Burial was at the Winterset cemetery with military graveside rites.

Born at Macksburg, May 11, 1919, he was the son of Horace and Mabel Hollingsworth. He was a farmer and a mail carrier, retiring in January of this year.

He was a member of Zion Federated Church, the VFW, a past commander of the American Legion and the Rural Mail Carriers Association.

Mr. Mapes married Lola Murphy on May 11, 1946 at Council Bluffs. She survives, along with his mother, Mabel Wright of Winterset; daughters, Sandra Granseth and Sharon Mapes, both of Des Moines; brothers Clarence of Winterset and Elmer of Rogers, Ark.; and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by his father Horace James Mapes and a brother, Ralph.
